Louise Creed, a Boston-based doctor, goes to Maina’s home with his wife Rechal, his two young children Ellie and Gaze and Ellie’s cat, church, in the small town of Ludlow, Massachusetts. While exploring the forest, Ellie stumbles into the funeral procession of children taking a dead dog to a pet, known as pet nemesis. His neighbour, Justice Crandall, warned him that the forests were dangerous.
At University Hospital, Louis is shaken after failing to save the life of Victor Pasco, a student who was badly injured when a vehicle hit him. Later he experiences a burning dream in which Pasco leads him to the back of the cemetery and warns him that he is a “dream.” “Don’t subscribe beyond that.” Luis found his legs and bed sheets dipped in mud, stating that the events were more than just a nightmare.
On Halloween, the church is hit by a truck. Judge takes Louise to a pet, then takes to an ancient burial ground to bury the church. The next day, Louis is stunned when the church returns home alive, though he is more aggressive, violently opening a bird. Judge Lewis tells the burial ground brings things back from the dead and is believed to have settled in the soul known as Wendego. After the church attacked the gag, Luis tried to please him. However, he decides to kill the cat and instead frees him.
